Top dog walking areas close to Basingstoke.


  1. Winkworth Arboretum.  (Park and forest)  Hascombe road, Godalming, GU8-4AD. 01483 208477.  Pleasant place to visit, has a lake, wooded areas and tearooms.  A national trust area, so will have to pay to get in. 
  2. Crabtree Plantation. (Park and forest).  London road, Old basing, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG24-7AS.  01256 844844.  A fantastic free family woodland walk.  A map at the beginning, by the monument.  The site has a small lake, large clearing with picnic benches scattered about and through the woods at the bottom is a play park.
  3. Wigmore Heath, Baughurst, RG26-4HL.  A green space with heathland and woodland, footpaths leading to play  and picnicking areas.
  4. War Memorial Park, Crossborough hill road, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21-4AG.  A fantastic large space, with footpaths leading to different areas of the park.  There are three self guided walks, a bmx/skatepark, and a play area.  This site has a lot more to offer and explore.
  5. Basing Lime Pits, Redbridge road, Old basing, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21-4.  This site provides the opportunity for walking, playing and picnicking.  The area form part of the Basingstoke canal heritage footpath trail, running across Basingstoke common and finishing at Basing house.
